Alabama's Public Liberal Arts University

Alabama Traffic Safety Center

Boating Safety

The Alabama Traffic Safety Center, located at the University of Montevallo, offers an eight hour course throughout the year. The course acquaints boaters with the laws, rules, and procedures for safe boat operation in Alabama.

Successful completion of the course and exam makes a person eligible for the Alabama boating license endorsement, as mandated by the Alabama Boating Safety Reform Act of 1994. As of April 28, 1999, Alabama boaters are required to have the vessel endorsement on their driver's license.

These courses are offered through the cooperation of the Alabama Marine Police, who provide the Alabama Boating Basics book and other literature free of charge to all course participants.
