ASPIRE/Student Support Services (SSS) is a U.S. Department of Education Trio program that provides free academic, career, and counseling support to eligible college students. Student Support Services can help students adjust to higher education by providing academic and personal advising/counseling, tutoring, academic success seminars, access to a computer lab, cultural enrichment activities, and study skills handouts. We also provide referrals to appropriate university and other resources that would be beneficial for students. Our goal is to deliver services and resources that will provide support for students; resulting in students having a positive experience at University of Montevallo and graduation.
The criteria for participation in the ASPIRE/SSS program is as follows:
* U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident
* Currently enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at the University of Montevallo and
* Have a limited family taxable income ( as determined by the U.S. Department of Education)
* Potentially the first in your family to complete a baccalaureate (4-year) degree or
* Have a documented disability
The University of Montevallo ASPIRE/SSS Program is funded to serve only 200 eligible students; and because of federal guidelines, priority must be given to:
a. Students who are both income eligible and first generation college students;
b. Students who are both disabled and income eligible;
c. Alumni of other TRiO programs: Upward Bound, Talent Search, or another SSS program;
MOST IMPORTANTLY, we look for highly motivated students with educational histories that reflect a need for academic support, and who want to make full use of the ASPIRE program to help reach their goal of becoming a successful college graduate.
